Apologetic

As a general rule I really try not to be “that guy”. You know who he is. Blissfully unaware of his jerk-iness, not treating his partner well, always needing to make things right. Do flowers and wine say I’m sorry without saying I’m sorry?

Wine, by the way, is an underutilized cocktail ingredient. It gets its moment in the sun with classics like the New York Sour, but it can bring some nice acidity and a ton of flavor in a cocktail as well. Or in the case of a sweet wine— like the delicious one sent to me by @gen7wine— it can even fill the role typically held by sweet vermouth. Like @risajamesphotography in her recent cocktail, I wanted to go the Negroni-esque route, but I brought flowers with my wine (floral gin + bitter bianco, which brings lovely floral notes and a subtler bitterness than Campari). The ratios were adjusted for balance and the end product was a really nice sip, full of floral notes and juicy grapes and juniper with that perfect hit of bitterness cleansing the palate at the end of the sip.

Recipe

  • 1.25oz floral gin (I used @hendricksginus Midsummer Soltice)

  • 0.75oz bitter bianco (@luxardousa)

  • 0.5oz sweet red wine (Noir de Noir, gifted by @gen7wine)

Stirred, served up, express and include lemon twist. Served with flowers and any necessary apologies. Cheers!!
