Before you ask, I’m not really sure how to pronounce the name of this drink. As my wife can begrudgingly attest, I love combining words, so today we have a Lucky Kiwi drink in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Kiwi has a distinct enough flavor and some acidity that lends itself well to cocktails (amiright @cocktail.complex?). And it’s green, so it’s perfect for today.

The drink is built around kiwi and poitín, the Irish spirit I recently posted about as part of the @madmarchharepoitin Mad March contest. The two fit really well together, especially with the addition of rhum agrigole to amp up the subtle funk of the poitín. The pineapple juice serves a background role supporting the kiwi fruitiness. And the green chartreuse does what it always does—it magically makes everything more awesome. This creamy dreamy drink went down all too easy.

Recipe

  • 1.5oz Poitín (@madmarchharepoitin)

  • 0.5oz rhum agricole (unaged, @rhumclementusa)

  • 0.25oz green chartreuse (@chartreuse1605)

  • 1/2 fresh kiwi, peeled and roughly chopped

  • 0.5oz lime juice

  • 0.5oz pineapple juice

  • 0.25oz simple syrup

  • 1 large egg white or vegan sub

Combine all ingredients and shake until incorporated. Strain and add ice, shake until chilled, fine strain into coupe. Garnish with dehydrated kiwi. Cheers!!
