Not Harry’s Butter Beer
This is not a Harry Potter post. My #dothedont crew decided to create a new group post, the #dirtysodachallenge. This was based on a diabetes-inducing lineup of spiked soda drinks— see @what.i.drink.eat.see for the full list and description. I chose “buttery beer”, which includes root beer, butterscotch, and vanilla cream.
In order to tone down the sweetness, I first interpreted “butterscotch” as “buttered scotch” (i.e. butter fat-washed a blended scotch). Yum, right? The root beer comes from a rich root beer syrup (see post 4/24/23 for recipe) and some cardamom bitters (which bring a bit of “cola” flavor). Last, I added a touch of salt to a homemade vanilla cream. While the drink is on the decadent side, it’s not overly sweet. And dang, that cream is luscious— worth giving a try in its own right.
Recipe
2oz Butter fat-washed blended scotch
0.25oz rich root beer syrup
2 dashes cardamom bitters (@feebrothersofficial)
Salted vanilla cream*
Stir first three ingredients until chilled, strain over large ice (gifted by @iceblox_ri), top with cream to your heart’s content, and enjoy. Cheers!!
Salted vanilla cream
1/4 cup heavy cream
0.75oz simple syrup
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/8 tsp salt
5-6 dashes foamer (I used @feebrothersofficial here too)
Use a handheld frother to whip until beautifully creamy.
