Plant Lovin’
We are in Full Spring Mode here in Texas, so this is a drink to celebrate. Or commiserate, if you are one of the many unfortunate souls whose nasal passages can’t tolerate the insane amount of neon yellow/green pollen that is being constantly dispersed into the air. This drink is an ode (?dirge) to the life cycle of the plants responsible for our collective sneezing.
The drink was supposed to be layered, but much like the pollen, the neon color overwhelms everything (seriously, it’s coating everything right now). It’s a Tom Collins riff of sorts, subbing simple syrup for liqueur/amaro and soda for sparkling wine. The Midori is more than green coloring here and it actually fits nicely with the floral notes from the gin/amaro and the herbal flavors of the chartreuse/gin. The sparkling rosé brightens up the drink and makes it dangerously crushable, while allowing the floral qualities to shine through.
Recipe
1.5oz floral gin (@hendricksginus Midsummer Solstice)
0.5oz Bitter Bianco (@luxardousa)
0.5oz Midori
0.25oz green chartreuse (@chartreuse1605)
0.75oz lime juice
Sparkling Rosé
Shake all ingredients minus wine until chilled. Strain over a clear ice spear, top with ~3oz sparkling rosé. Garnish with mint, lime peel spiral (thanks @rogzor), and cherry blossoms. Gesundheit! Cheers!!
