PPP (purple / pea / plum)

Happy Monday y’all! After acorns and spruce trees I felt like something more… indoor? Less woodsy ? It’s a little simpler too, but don’t let that fool you; it’s a darn good gin sour. And it’s really purple so it has that going for it. The beautiful color comes from a lovely butterfly pea syrup made by a local syrup wizard, @barchefshouston. Going further with the tea theme, I added some Earl Grey bitters and complimented this with Umeshu (plum wine) for the sweet aspect. I used a typical London dry gin but I suspect this would be even better with a Japanese gin that is heavier on the botanicals.

Recipe

  • 2oz gin

  • <0.5oz of umeshu (@choya_usa)

  • 0.25oz butterfly pea rich syrup (@barchefshouston, gifted)

  • 0.75oz lemon juice

  • 1 dash Earl Grey bitters

Shake all ingredients with ice until chilled. Fine strain over #clearice cubes and garnish with a lemon twist. Cheers!!
