From The Ground Up
Happy Earth Day everyone! To celebrate, I am continuing this week’s trend of Making Things Complicated with more layers, a homemade tincture (using otherwise discarded fennel fronds), and citrus peels that were going bad (garnish). The drink is shot in my garden and if you have the space, I highly encourage you to plant something if you don’t already.
But I digress. Today’s cocktail is herbal and refreshing and bitter and delicious. The split tequila / aquavit base supports all these strong, vibrant flavors just right. If you want to make it yourself, you could skip the layers. And the dehydrated citrus flowers are fun…but you could probably skip that too (unless you are also celebrating Earth Day). The tincture is incredible though, and worth the time spent making it. Full disclosure: I cheated by adding a dash of blue curaçao for color. The green layer is beautiful though so you’re welcome😬
