Jalpearzu
I’m really feeling the summer-y drinks lately, and this one is no exception. At first glance, it might read “heavy” with whisky and brandy in the mix, but the versatility of this lighter Japanese whisky is on full display here and serves as the sturdy anchor that allows this juicy, flavorful highball to come to life.
The primary flavor profile here is pear (coming from a delicious brandy gifted by @okanaganspirits) + jalapeño (see post from 3/6/23) + yuzu. The latter comes from a delicious syrup sent to me by @root23simplesyrups. I’m partnering with them over the next few months and if you want to give any of their delicious syrups a try, use the code JOHN20 for a 20% discount (no commission received)!
The flavors meld together nicely, without any one of them winning out, tied together in part by the Cocchi. The combination of lemon juice + grapefruit oils helps highlight the yuzu. Add some bubbles and we have ourselves a thirst-quenching summer highball.
Recipe
1.25oz Japanese whisky (Toki @suntorywhisky)
0.5oz Pear brandy (@okanaganspirits, gifted)

0.5oz Yuzu citrus syrup (@root23simplesyrups, gifted)
0.5oz Jalapeño shochu
0.5oz Lemon juice
Soda water
Whip shake ingredients minus soda, dump, top with ice and then 2oz soda water. Garnish with grapefruit twist and pear fan. Cheers!!
