Grapes & Grain

#ad

Today I have drink #2 in my Catan & Catan series, highlighting an amazing Chilean pisco (@catanpisco) and the classic board game, Settlers of Catan (@settlersofcatan).

This drink is inspired by the Wheat resource card. Wheat is used in alcohol in numerous ways, such as a wheated bourbon— but whiskey is generally a bit too assertive to pair with unaged spirits. It’s also used in beer, especially in Belgian-style unfiltered beers such as the ever-popular Blue Moon. It’s a fairly sweet, slightly fruity, easy-to-drink beer that seemed like a good match for the pisco.

I built the drink similar to prior Beertails (spirit + citrus + syrup) and have once again affirmed just how amazing this template can be. The lemon juice helps the pisco pop, and the orange juice brings the pisco and beer together. The drink is juicy and slightly floral, beer-forward yet definitely a cocktail— it’s truly a marriage of grapes and grain. I hope you’ll try one of these with me!

Recipe

  • 1.5oz Catan Pisco (@catanpisco)

  • 0.5oz lemon juice

  • 0.75oz orange juice

  • 0.5oz simple syrup

  • 4oz Belgian-style wheat beer (eg @bluemoonbrewco)

Shake first 4 ingredients with ice briefly until chilled. Strain into pilsner glass over a few ice cubes and top with beer. Garnish with fresh orange slice. Cheers!!
