Walk In The Woods

We are officially halfway through the @catanpisco and @settlersofcatan series today! This drink brings you pisco in an Old Fashioned format. This is a style you don’t often see with pisco, so definitely give this a try because it’s delicious! The inspiration is the Wood resource card, combined with the fact that the late founder of Settlers, Klaus Teuber, was known to enjoy exploring the outdoors.
The primary “wood” notes here come from cedar smoke, which pairs beautifully with strawberry from a simple infusion in the pisco (room temp, 24-36 hours, strain and bottle). Just the right amount of balsamic vinegar gives a lovely counterpoint without being… well, vinegar-y (an aged option is really nice here). The various garnishes help to add a complex aroma and just a hint of spice and herbaceousness.
Recipe
2oz Strawberry-infused Catan Pisco
0.25oz simple syrup
0.5 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
Stir with ice until chilled. Collect cedar smoke under glass. Turn glass, add ice (I used a gorgeous cube gifted by @iceblox_ri), strain. Express and discard orange twist. Add a couple cracks of freshly ground black pepper and garnish with basil leaf. Cheers!!
