Barnum Flip
If I had any flair bartending skills, I’d do a video for this drink. But I don’t. So just imagine me riding a unicycle in a creepy clown costume while I flip a bunch of bottles around to make this drink. What’s that? You’re glad I didn’t actually do that? Yeah, me too, friend.
This whimsical Flip was the result of a trapeze-like braintrust between the incredibly talented @anushu802 and myself. It took us a little bit of swinging back and forth before landing on this recipe, but trust me, it’s still a valid dessert drink for the summer. The driving idea was to use animal crackers to create a drink that mimicked the super-decadent frosted animal crackers. It turns out animal crackers are pretty light on the… distinct flavor department, but this drink is still really tasty and fun. For the bourbon infusion, I combined 2:1 bourbon to crackers (unfrosted) by weight for 2-3 days; strain and squeeze through cheesecloth/superbag and then through coffee filter.
Recipe
1.5oz animal cracker-infused bourbon (@elijahcraig)
0.5oz aged rum (@havanaclub)
0.5oz licor 43 (@licor43usa)
0.25oz orgeat
0.5oz cream
1 whole egg
\\\\Combine all ingredients and dry shake. Add ice, shake until chilled. Strain into glass and garnish with sprinkles. I don’t recommend trying to paint crushed up animal crackers on your glass. If you’re curious, it’s supposed to be balloons, or maybe an elephant? Cheers🤡
