Cherry Cheers

I am excited to post this mocktail as part of a broader effort by a group of fellow drinkstagrammers today— we are led by my friend @shelby.mastro , who has very openly shared her experiences with alcoholism. I truly appreciate her honesty and candor, and she is graciously supporting a worthy charity, Shatterproof, that helps address addiction in various ways. Thank you Shelby.

As with many mocktails I enjoy, I brought in a shrub to get some of that “burn” that makes it feel more like a drink and less like… juice. The real meat of the drink is the mix of the rich strawberry balsamic shrub and the smoked cherry cubes juiced in a juice shake. The smoke notes give the feel of an aged spirit, and the cherry, balsamic, and cranberry come together beautifully. This is a complex drink and really doesn’t need alcohol (though vodka would be my choice if it were a cocktail).

Recipe

  • 1oz cranberry juice

  • 0.5oz lime juice

  • 0.5oz strawberry balsamic shrub (homemade)

  • 2 smoked cherry @mixicles (gifted)

  • Soda water

Combine ingredients minus soda and shake until cubes dissolve. Strain into glass with fresh ice, top with soda, and garnish with cherries and rosemary sprig. Cheers!!
